County Durham Schools visit Land of the Rising Sun.
Teacher Liz Gill won't be taking a rickshaw all the way from her school in Wearhead to her partner school in the Suginami District of Tokyo!
She and four of her pupils will be heading to the land of the rising sun as part of the school's new international partnership programme. The pupils, who have been working with their Japanese friends to create their own bilingual, internet story will finally get to meet their co-authors during the week long visit funded by the British Council.
Wearhead is one of seven County Durham schools which were linked by the International Relations team with schools in a district of Tokyo following work with the British Council, japan 21, the Japanese National Institute for Educational Research and the Teikyo University of Japan in Durham.
Teikyo students now regularly visit County schools as part of a county/university initiative to support both Durham learners and overseas students.
Five teachers from three other County Durham schools; St Margaret's, St Oswald's and Peases West, will also be making the trip eastwards in October to further develop their links.
